In this talk, researchers from a Rhode Island radiology practice will present an algorithm that automatically gathers and emails follow-up clinical and laboratory data to radiologists.

To make it as easy as possible for radiologists to get clinical and laboratory data on radiology studies of interest, the group from Lifespan in Providence, RI, used a speech recognition system macro and an internally developed interface engine algorithm to automatically query the electronic medical record for pathology, cytology, endoscopy, and operative reports, said presenter Dr. Jonathan Movson.

"It was possible in our case to create an algorithm using existing IT infrastructure to achieve this goal," he told AuntMinnie.com. "We collect pathology, cytology, operating room, and endoscopy reports on the patients of interest, and deliver these via email to the requesting radiologist(s)."
