SMS transcription supports images

A new medical transcription software application was launched this week that enables medical transcriptionists to use SMS text messaging to send digital records and clinical notes, including medical images, to mobile devices.

Text messaging developer Globaltel Media of San Diego and medical transcription firm ScribeWell of Las Vegas jointly announced the launch of ScribeWell Medical Transcription Solution, which is designed to enable the secure exchange of physician-dictated notes with rich media from any PC to mobile devices and back.

Medical images such as x-rays and MRI and CT scans can be embedded in the SMS text messages. The companies say the software is HIPAA compliant, allows only authorized users to access information, and provides audit trails.
