Agfa plans ECR 2010 product releases

Agfa HealthCare of Mortsel, Belgium, plans to show new products and an expanded portfolio at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, Austria.

New product introductions include Agfa's DX-G and DX-M computed radiography (CR) systems, a nuclear medicine information system, a clinical capture suite, and a newly acquired contrast media portfolio.

Agfa's DX-M is designed to perform CR-based mammography with both needle-based detector plates and standard phosphor plates. The system's small footprint and configuration is intended for high throughput and enhanced workflow. In addition, the needle-based detector is compatible with existing breast imaging modalities.

Agfa will also launch its Impax Nuclear Medicine Information System (NIS), software designed to fully automate a nuclear medicine department's workflow and enhance communication between nuclear medicine specialists and other departments. The system allows users to schedule patient exams from arrival and process management through reporting and distribution of all nuclear medicine studies and reports.

Agfa also will roll out new software designed to provide a single point of access for storing and distributing all hospital imaging sources. The Impax Clinical Capture Suite provides the workflow and informatics to capture, store, and visualize non-DICOM modalities while ensuring the integrity of DICOM modalities.

Agfa also will show a new work-in-progress mobile digital radiography (DR) system, featuring a fully motorized DX-D 100 mobile DR detector. The system is supported by Musica2, Agfa's image processing software for enhanced image quality.

DX-D 100 offers a 15-inch screen and battery autonomy for long life. DX-D 100 will be displayed next to the company's DX-D 500 wall and ceiling system and the DX-D 300 U-arm DR systems at ECR 2010.

Agfa also will show a new work-in-progress DX-D 10C retrofit detector that's the size of a film cassette to fit an existing analog bucky, giving users the option to retrofit a system in the field. The detector can be used to transform analog x-ray units into digital systems with Agfa's DX-D integrator packages.

Agfa also plans to highlight products launched at the 2009 RSNA meeting, including its next-generation CR system, DX-G, for general radiography, such as imaging of extremities and neonatal and pediatric applications. This unit has the flexibility of handling both standard phosphor imaging plates and needle-based detectors.

Agfa's new Xero medical imaging and results viewer, also launched at the RSNA show, provides access to imaging information for clinicians at any point of care, regardless of network constraints or platforms and administrative rules.

In the area of consumables, Agfa is expanding its portfolio through the acquisition of Insight Agents, a German developer, producer, and distributor of generic contrast agents.
