NIH foundation renews ADNI funding

The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has renewed funding for the NIH's Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) -- the largest public-private partnership in Alzheimer's disease research -- for an additional five years, it said.

The goal of the study's next phase, which is called ADNI2, is to improve clinical trial design and aid drug development. ADNI2 will identify and track early changes in the brain before the onset of symptoms of Alzheimer's disease by using imaging techniques and biomarker measures in blood and cerebrospinal fluid, the foundation said.
