Covidien warns of Tc-99m shortfall

Healthcare technology firm Covidien of Dublin is warning its customers of shortages of technetium-99m (Tc-99m) generators in the first half of September.

In its most recent update, Covidien noted that it is working closely with its suppliers to secure additional supplies of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), though the amounts will fall short of the company's need.

The majority of its supply will come from the Maria nuclear reactor in Poland to cover demand through September 9, when the Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) is scheduled to restart its Mo-99-producing High Flux Reactor in Petten, the Netherlands.
