Healthcare technology firm Covidien of Dublin, Ireland, expects spot shortages of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) to continue through the month of May.
The May 5 update shows no Mo-99 supplies available at least three days in each week of May, prompting the cancellation of technetium-99m generator service for almost half of this month.
The May shortages are due to ongoing maintenance at Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group's High Flux Reactor in Petten, the Netherlands, and Atomic Energy of Canada's National Research Universal reactor in Chalk River, Ontario.
In addition, the BR2 reactor in Belgium is offline during May for routine maintenance.
