Nuke med advances in Middle East, Turkey

Two new projects will enhance nuclear medicine practice in the Middle East and Turkey.

A Turkish firm has unveiled plans to build southeastern Anatolia's first radiopharmacy in Gaziantep.

The Ozsu Group's Moltek Medicine Plant will produce radiopharmaceuticals through an academic and private industry partnership at a total cost of $10 million. Plans are to have the radiopharmacy operating by the end of this year.

In addition, the Dubai Health Authority has announced the launch of a facility, the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates, to manufacture FDG.

The new facility will be an hour from many major Dubai hospitals that use FDG for various oncological, cardiovascular, and neurological applications.

Until now, the agency has had to import FDG from outside the United Arab Emirates, which was a challenge given FDG's short half-life.
