AECL reactor repairs on schedule

Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) has reported that repairs to its 52-year-old National Research Universal (NRU) reactor in Chalk River, Ontario, continue, with approximately 11% of the planned repairs completed to date.

Repair efforts will proceed over the holiday period, with crews continuing to work around the clock, seven days a week, to carry on repairs to the NRU vessel.

The reactor remains on schedule to go online by the end of March 2010 to produce approximately 50% of the molybdenum-99 supply for the U.S.
