The U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) has awarded $11.5 million to provide bridge funding to small businesses developing novel cancer therapies, diagnostics, and cancer imaging technologies.
The SBIR Phase II Bridge Awards were given to:
- Altor Bioscience, for development of a bifunctional T cell receptor-based immunotherapeutic
- Gamma Medica-Ideas, for development of a novel molecular breast imaging technique
- Guided Therapeutics, for development of its LightTouch point-of-care device for cervical cancer screening
- Koning, for development of a conebeam breast CT scanner
Each of the awardees received substantial matching funds from investors, according to the NCI.
