Nuke med techs top U.S. labor bureau wage report

Nuclear medicine technologists are among the highest-paid allied health professionals in radiology, according to an annual report on wages and salaries released this month by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The report found that nuclear medicine technologists in 2008 received a median hourly wage of $32.05, which translates to an annual salary of $67,480. That figure represents growth of 3% compared to a median hourly wage of $31.09 in 2007 and an annual salary of $65,380.

Diagnostic medical sonographers saw a median hourly wage in 2008 of $29.80 or $62,660 annually, up 3.5% compared to a median hourly wage of $28.78 and an annual salary of $60,590 in 2007.

Radiologic technologists earned a median hourly wage of $25.10 or $53,230 annually in 2008, up 3.9% compared to a 2007 median hourly wage of $24.16 or $51,150 annually in 2007.

The salaries compare to a median U.S. wage of $15.57 per hour or $32,390 per year for all professions, according to BLS statistics. The data are derived from the bureau's Occupational Employment Statistics program, which provides employment and wage estimates for wage and salary workers in 22 major occupational groups and 801 detailed occupations.
