Lantheus resumes TechneLite production

Lantheus Medical Imaging of North Billerica, MA, has resumed the manufacture of its TechneLite technetium-99m generator, using molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) from Atomic Energy of Canada's (AECL) National Research Universal (NRU) reactor.

The nuclear reactor in Chalk River, Ontario, returned to service last week to produce the medical isotope after being offline since May 2009.

Lantheus last month signed an agreement for nuclear medicine firm MDS Nordion of Ottawa to provide Lantheus with additional supplies of Mo-99 on a weekly basis once NRU went back online.

The contract runs through July 31, 2011.
