Siemens unveils SNM molecular additions

Siemens Healthcare is showcasing a number of enhancements to its molecular imaging line at the 2010 SNM annual meeting in Salt Lake City.

Iterative reconstruction in image space (IRIS) CT, used in concert with the firm's TrueV and HD technologies on the Biograph PET/CT line, enables more than 50% dose reduction and improvements in the scan speed of conventional PET/CT systems, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor.

Siemens is also discussing the first clinical results from its IQ-SPECT technology, which facilitates the acquisition of images at half the scan time of conventional SPECT and with half the injected dose, the company said.

In other news, Siemens has formally launched its Guardian program for a number of its molecular imaging systems. The program proactively monitors a customer system online in real-time and automatically informs the Siemens service center of any critical parameters.

Guardian is available on Biograph mCT, Biograph TruePoint, Symbia S, and Symbia T product lines. Another Guardian option available for Biograph mCT, TubeGuard, can predict the majority of all potential CT tube failures, Siemens said.

In IT developments at SNM, Siemens is presenting its Symbia.net clinical workflow server, a client-server package for SPECT and SPECT/CT imaging applications. The firm is also highlighting syngo.via, a client-server and advanced visualization software platform for PET/CT multimodality applications.
