Ziehm teams with BrainLab

C-arm developer Ziehm Imaging of Riverside, CA, and image-guided therapy firm BrainLab of Munich, Germany, have unveiled their latest collaboration in 3D intraoperative guidance.

The firms have combined Ziehm's Vision2 FD Vario mobile C-arm with BrainLab's software to create the NaviPort interface, designed to produce high-resolution 3D images in 16,000 shades of gray. NaviPort is intended to provide 3D intraoperative guidance for pedicle screw and hardware placement during surgical intervention for neurological trauma surgery.

According to the two firms, studies have shown that pedicle screws are positioned erroneously in 40% of all operative interventions where x-ray monitoring is not employed.
