Brem to publish mastectomy primer

Dr. Rachel Brem and colleague Dr. Christine Teal, both of George Washington University in Washington, DC on May 16 will release a book that offers women a primer on breast cancer treatment options.

The book, called No Longer Radical: Understanding Mastectomies and Choosing Breast Cancer Care That's Right for You, is being published by Simon & Schuster. Both Brem and Teal are breast cancer survivors; Brem is a radiologist and Teal is a breast surgeon.

The book addresses topics such as how a woman's medical history might increase her breast cancer risk, how to decide if mastectomy is a good treatment option, evaluating other breast cancer treatment options, and understanding breast cancer treatment recovery, the publisher said in a statement.
