Frederic Fahey, DSc, has taken the reins as president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) for the next 12 months.

Fahey is the director of physics in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Boston Children's Hospital and also an associate professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School. He plans to advance the understanding of radiation dose and risk and promote dose optimization during his term, according to SNMMI.

He also plans to develop global initiatives, collaborating with peer societies worldwide and working to expand the practice of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in developing countries.

In addition, Dr. Gary Dillehay, professor of radiology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was named president-elect of SNMMI at last week's annual meeting.

Dillehay plans to lead the organization's participation in the American Board of Internal Medicine's Choosing Wisely campaign, SNMMI said. He will also guide SNMMI members in developing evidence-based recommendations that physicians and patients can discuss to help choose appropriate care based on their individual situations.
